No Off Button

Our little boy will celebrate his 2nd birthday in a few weeks, and Josiah is about to grow out of one of his most fitting t-shirts that rightly says, “I have no 'off' button.” You see, our toddler truly never stops... Recently, in a game of peek-a-boo, when we thought he was missing or had briefly paused, he quickly reappeared and shouted, “I'm me!!!” (his version of “It's me!”).

Yes, of course it's true that he does take his daily nap, but my point is that little Joey's behavior represents a wonderful trait of our Lord in some ways. Here's what I mean... In John's gospel, Jesus said, "My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I, too, am working" (John 5:17).

You see, God's workings may not always make sense to us, but they are always faithful, constant, intentional, and trustworthy. I recently learned that the most common question asked by people to God in all of Scripture is, “How long?” But the most frequent statement from God to mankind is, “Fear not,” or “do not be afraid,” as if our loving God is answering the question that He has heard, and wants to reassure us to trust Him for His constant care and watchfulness. The Lord, indeed, has no off button.
