What a Fix

Tonight as my wife was putting our 22 month old toddler, Joey, to bed, I overheard him saying, “Daddah” through the door. Since that's me, I stuck my head in. Let me explain how my name came up.

My wife has a prayer time with Joey while putting him to bed. During that time, she always mentions a little girl's name whose heart needs the Lord's touch of physical healing and restoration. Whenever Christe says this little girl's name, Josiah always says with a concerned expression, “Heart”!

Well, tonight, I heard him adding something to that mix. You see, Joey is under the impression that I'm like "Handy Manny," since I've fixed the cover of his Curious George book and a coloring book, added batteries to his Thomas the Train engine, and repaired another few toys of his... plus, his mom nicely helps him think that Dad can fix anything! So after Christe mentioned the girl and Joey said heart, Christe began to pray for the Lord to “fix” her heart. At that point, he responded by saying, “Daddah.”

King David once said, “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped” (Psalm 28:7). With the same childlike faith, he relied upon his “Father” who could fix any problem and always help. How awesome that our living God, who referred to dead people as simply asleep, could fix a little girl's heart as easily as I can change Thomas the Train's battery! I am still learning to depend on my heavenly Father in the same way my son counts on me.
